Rector: The Rev. Dr. Gianluigi Gugliermetto

Email: priest.christchurchont@gmail.com

Gianluigi Gugliermetto is a native of Italy who studied music, philosophy, and theology both in his country and in the United States. He was granted his Ph.D. in philosophy of religion and theology in 2008 (Claremont Graduate University).

After leaving the U.S. in 2008, he lived in Italy and Austria, working as a translator of theological works into Italian and as spiritual retreats leader, especially in collaboration with Episcopal priest and theologian Matthew Fox. In 2010-2011 he taught classes in Anglicanism for the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe. In 2012 he was visiting scholar at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. In 2013 he founded the "Associazione SpiritualitĂ  del Creato" in Italy, a non-profit organization which offers retreats and seminars. The website of the Associazione SpiritualitĂ  del Creato (in Italian) can be found here

He was ordained by Bishop Jon Bruno at Christ Church in 2015 (deacon) and in 2016 (priest). It is an extraordinary thing, he says, that he has been called to serve as a priest-in-charge by the parish that first identified his vocation many years earlier. In 2018 he started the Center for Spirituality in Ontario, which offers programs for the wider community. The website of the Center can be found here.

As a scholar, Gianluigi has published in the sub-fields of inter-faith dialogue, the history and theology of Anglicanism, and theology and sexuality (theology of desire). He also enjoyed a brief flirt with film studies.

In the Episcopal Church, the Rector or Priest-in-charge of a parish is called by the parish itself, through its Vestry, and needs to be approved by the Diocesan Bishop before beginning his or her service.
